We call upon the federal, provincial, territorial, and Aboriginal governments to develop culturally appropriate parenting programs for Aboriginal families—action # 5.
The devastating impact of residential schools, the 60's Scoop, the Aim Program, and the Child welfare system on Traditional Parenting techniques has left Indigenous parents feeling lost and disconnected from their ancestral teachings. They seek guidance and support to restore their traditional values, teachings, and practices to enhance their parenting skills. To address this crucial issue, we are organizing a two-day workshop to empower parents to parent in both worlds. Our discussion will delve into the parenting techniques of our ancestors and compare them to modern parenting styles. We'll examine the contrast and similarities of Parenting in Both Worlds and provide the tools you need to restore your traditional parenting techniques. Additionally, we'll explore the significance of traditions, ceremonies, parenting styles, and other teachings passed down through generations. Join us to reclaim your ancestral teachings and become empowered parents.
