Barbara Hunt's humble recognition of her limited expertise in being an Indigenous ally is truly inspiring. She openly shares her personal experience and evolving knowledge, while acknowledging the privileges and advantages that come with being a white settler in a colonized society. Her commitment to becoming a better ally and growing in her understanding of Indigenous experiences is a testament to her admirable character. With years of experience in business creation and management, as well as counseling, Barbara is a valuable asset to our team.
Sean Chadwick is a true inspiration for those seeking to embrace their heritage and make a positive impact in the world. Despite facing numerous challenges, such as aging out of the foster system and having Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Sean remains steadfast in his pursuit of his dreams. He encourages others to find their own path in life and shares his history with them. Sean's determination to become a skilled 3D animator while supporting youth and pursuing his passions in humor, drawing, 3D animation, drum making, attending Elder camps, and enjoying life is truly remarkable. His admirable qualities and positive outlook on life serve as a great example for others to follow.
Taanshi! Boozhoo! Hello!
As an artist, wife, mother, and Métis woman who grew up in Northern Manitoba, Cheryl Ruckle has had the privilege of learning from many knowledgeable people. She feels grateful to have passed on that knowledge to others as she continues to explore and learn more about her heritage. Her inspiring journey reminds us of the value of sharing knowledge and learning from one another.
As a trained facilitator, Joanne leads both in-person and virtual sessions for the Kairos Blanket Exercise, an experiential journey through the shared history of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. She collaborates with Treaty 8 Elders to develop interactive Blackfoot Exercises, educating Albertans about the ancestral Blackfoot territory and the enduring impacts of colonization. Joanne’s commitment extends beyond education; she has also managed treatment programs for Indigenous youth and served as an education consultant for a First Nations school. Additionally, she actively participates in Calgary’s community music and musical theatre scene as both a performer and a conductor.
Joanne’s multifaceted career spans education, facilitation, and community involvement, with a focus on Indigenous history and cultural understanding.
