Census data from 2011 counted children in foster care for the first time, counting 47,885 children in care. Most foster children - 25,590, or about 62% - were aged fourteen and under. We still have a genocide happening today involving Indigenous children, it's called the Foster System.
In Manitoba alone over 11,000 children are in the Foster System and 90% of the children are Indigenous.
The 2011 National Household Survey results also show that 38% of Indigenous children in Canada live in poverty, compared to 7% of non-Indigenous children.
